29 Paintings Sold at 3-Man Show

Wow, what a fun experience having my two sons, Jim and Jonathon, join me for a three-man show at my St. George Gallery. I took most of my own artwork down except for about ten paintings and literally filled my walls with the watercolors of my sons. Both have been really good at drawing since childhood, but only in the past two years have taken up painting. So it was  areal thrill to have them join me for our first big show together. We had lots of people come to the opening reception Thursday night, and all day Friday and Saturday. Amazingly we sold 29 paintings between the three of us so it was a resounding success. I hope we can do it again some time.

"Etched in Time" Publication Features Roland Lee Article and Paintings

A special magazine publication called "Etched in Time" features multiple Roland Lee landscape paintings, along with a chapter from Roland Lee's new book "Discovering Zion, A Pictorial Guide to the Landscape, Geology and History of Zion National Park." Roland Lee Painting Wins Award at Watercolor West 51st Annual Exhibition

I was pleased to have my painting, "Railroad Summit" juried into the 51st annual Watercolor West Exhibition. Juror Kieko Tanabe chose the painting which also received a Combined Merchandise Award of $496. The show is on display at the City of Brea Gallery in California.

Award in Fall 2019 Utah Watercolor Society Exhibit

My painting "Modena Crossing" received the Merchants Award at the Fall 2109 exhibition of the Utah Watercolor Society. The show is held at the Sego 3 gallery in Salt Lake City. Also in the exhibit was "House on Hwy 89."

13 Painters Join Roland Lee for Watercolor Workshop at Moab Red Rocks Plein Air Festival

Great weather and outstanding scenery awaited me and 13 accomplished artists at the 2019 Red Rocks Plein Air Art Festival at Moab, Utah. Surrounded by several National Parks and Monuments, Moab is ideally suited for this annual event which draws hundreds of artists from all over the country. Part of that event included two painting workshops, one from Roland Lee and the other with noted landscapist Jill Carver to kick off the event. Headquartered at the MARC (Moab Recreation and Arts Center) we combined both indoor instruction two days of outdoor painting for a truly memorable experience. Thanks to Liz Holland and her staff for seeing to our every need.

Roland and his two sons, Jim and Jon, will have a show and sale of their watercolors at the Roland Lee Art Gallery October 17-19, 2019. Called "All in the Family" the sale will feature about 20 paintings from each artist. A reception will be held Thursday Nov 17 at 6pm.

120 artists at Plein Air Utah Retreat and Rendezvous

100 artists joined 22 faculty members at the Plein Air Utah Retreat and Rendezvous last week in Midway Utah. Four days of seminars, outdoor painting, talks, demos, food and fun rounded out the event. Heavy rain slowed us down Tuesday and Wednesday but glorious weather greeted us the remainder of the week. The event was co-sponsored and hosted by the Plein Air Painters of Utah group who acted as instructors and faculty, along with the Midway Art Association who acted as hosts, providing facilities and staffing. We can't wait until next year.

My good friend and artist George Kehew is 96 years old and still painting! I have a hard time keeping up with him at age 70. We decided to trade paintings at the Zions Bank art show in St. George UT.
