The weather is so wonderful in southern Utah that we decided to go plein air painting in Zion National Park. The sun was shining and it was literally perfect for outdoor painting in February! We enjoyed a couple of nights in Virginia Howard's lovely home at Zion Ridge and painted three days. So great to be outdoors when winter seems like summer.

We were greeted by wonderful warm weather for the week of painting in Zion National Park. The magnificent Yellow leaves on the Cottonwoods added drama to every scene. I was pleased to sell nine paintings at the Gala event Friday and during the live paint-out on Saturday. It was so much fun being with the other 14 invited artists and meeting so many new and repeat collectors. Thanks to Worthington Gallery and the Zion Forever Project for sponsoring this event which supports the mission of Zion Park. Half of all sales went to the Forever Project.

I was excited to meet The Frampton family today who purchased my painting, "Sentinel Shadows" along with a second painting, "The Perfect Morning." It was a delight meeting them and find out she had been looking at my work for a long time on line. What a joy to have precious collectors support my work.

I've enjoyed spending a few days each week this summer at our east Zion cabin studio. I have started a couple of new oil paintings there but especially love going into the park for some plein air painting on location.

I had a nice crowd attend my book signing June 21 at the St. George Chamber of Commerce meeting room. I signed lots of books and shared stories behind the paintings in my new book, Roland Lee, A Legacy in Landscapes. The event was sponsored by the Book Bungalow, a local book store. My two daughters Jodi and Jana helped set up and Jodi read some quotes from the book.

I am enjoying a wonderful workshop with my friend and master artist John Poon. Joined by 10 others we painted every day this week outdoors in the Ogden and Bountiful Utah area. It has been a fun week while I try to make sense of painting in acrylics. It has been so hot that I had to keep misting my palette, the paints and even my canvases to keep the acrylics from drying out. But I am having a blast.

They will be available for shipment hopefully by April 15.

We were greeted by an enthusiastic sold out crowd at the Kayenta Arts Center as Lyman Hafen and I gave a dual lecture on the history of southern Utah. As part of the Voyager Lecture Series I presented a powerpoint showing many of my paintings of pioneer history, as well as the Ancestral Puebloans, plus the geologic history of this area. My good friend and author Lyman Hafen shared some of his stories from his book, "Where Two Streams Meet."
